DATA FIG Meeting 4 Thursday, 6/13/24 – CANCELED

This session is canceled, but please feel free to contact for any questions. Thank you, Dorina [[email protected]]

Using Data to Support Teaching and Learning

As data have become increasingly important across higher education, a faculty-driven approach to intentional and informed data collection and interpretation is essential if data is to support student success and advance equity at KCC. To facilitate the discussion, we intend to share KCC data and research findings to support teaching and learning. After completing the series, the faculty will be familiar with Qualtrics, as well as discussing and interpreting survey data.

Session 1: How to Use IRBManager (Before Collection of Data)

Session 2: How to Use Qualtrics (Collection of Data)

Session 3: How to Analyze and Interpret Data (After Collection of Data)

Session 4: Q&A on Design, Data Collection, and Analysis

DATA FIG Meeting 3 Thursday, 5/30/24

This session provided an overview of how to use Qualtrics to create surveys. The various capabilities of Qualtrics were unraveled, such as creating various types of questions (e.g., multiple choice, matrix, slider, etc.), creating link/QR code for distribution, and then downloading the data in various forms, such as disaggregated in excel file, as well as aggregated form including graphs. Different features and options were shown as well.

DATA FIG Meeting 2 Thursday, 5/23/24

In this session, the data collected from Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 student and faculty surveys was shared. During this discussion, it was shown how the collected data can be displayed, interpreted, and used for future updates to the design of surveys. The slides are attached. Data Collection & Analysis

DATA FIG Meeting 1 Thursday, 5/16/24

Session 1: How to Use IRBManager (Before Collection of Data)

In this session we presented the participants with the steps in completing IRB filing. It was first included in the context of a research planning. What are the stages of completing a project that is evidence based and collects information from human subjects? The outline below shows the steps that one follows in a project, during which it will have to complete IRB exemption or application. The powerpoint attached provides the slides of the presentation.

  • Step 1: Ask the question
  • Step 2: Create the hypothesis and anticipate the solution
  • Step 3: Collect Data
  • Step 3.1 Design
  • Step 3.2 Receive IRB Approval
  • Step 3.3 Data Collection
  • Step 4: Data Analysis
  • Step 4.1 Analysis
  • Step 4.2 Interpretation
  • Step 4.3 Reject or Support the Model
  • Step 5: Future Decisions

Education

Researchers are responsible for completing training on the conduct of human subjects research prior to engaging in research activities. All Principal Investigators (PI) and Key Personnel are required to take two trainings:

  • HSR for Social & Behavioral Faculty, Graduate Students & Postdoctoral Scholars
  • Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) for CUNY Researchers
